I don't know about your Facebook wall, but mine last week was full of links to the Alamo Drafthouse's anti-texting message. I noticed it was on quite an array of news websites as well. If you've been living under a rock, or (more probably) have fewer Austin contacts than I do, here it is:

Yesterday my Facebook wall was all about an article in Bon Appetit magazine calling a new local barbecue joint, Franklin BBQ, THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY. I think it's important to point out here that the article was written by a Georgia boy, and we all know that people from there think that barbecue is pulled pork smothered in gross sauce and put on a bun with cole slaw on it. Good God, the horror. Anyway, you can imagine it must take some kind of amazing barbecue to sway a heathen like that. Again, RIGHT HERE IN AUSTIN.
Let it be known that before visiting Franklin Barbecue a few months back, I never considered Texas brisket real BBQ.... For me, the "real stuff" meant pulled or chopped pork. It was only after I moved to New York City—yes, New York City—some 12 years ago and visited spots that dabbled in all styles that I realized BBQ could involve beef. (I know that sounds crazy, but I'm sure my Southern brethren understand.)... Now this upstart joint, not even two years old, is mentioned in the same breath as BBQ stalwarts Kreuz Market and Smitty's Market in nearby Lockhart. Some even think it has surpassed the greats. I had the pleasure of trying 4-hour old Franklin barbecue that friends got and couldn't finish in April. These leftovers that knocked my socks off. I haven't had it fresh yet because you have to wait in line for at least an hour. Some day I will find myself on a Saturday morning with no swimming lessons or birthday parties to run kids to, and by golly, I will be there.
Today there's a new trending link on my Facebook wall, and color me intrigued. A grocery store is coming to Austin which promises zero packaging waste. Say what?!
